Optimism. Hope. Confidence. Three words that Delta CEO Ed Bastian kept repeating during his latest earnings call. It's no secret that this has been one of the most challenging times in the history of U.S. aviation (among many other industries), yet Ed Bastian remained positive in his message. 

Bill Murphy Jr. has written about companies like Delta for many years, and he has come to realize two things regarding leadership that we can all take away. 

  1. Leadership at scale equals culture. 
  2. Any leader's most powerful tools are his or her words. 

As leaders, we should add optimism, hope and confidence to our linguistic toolkit.
