Topics: governance

To strengthen NAIFA's governance structure, on May 17, 2026, the NAIFA Board of Trustees adopted amendments to the NAIFA Bylaws. The amendments include term limits for NAIFA Board and Governance Committee positions and a one-year extension of the Board appointments for FSP and Life Happens.

Commencing with Trustees elected in 2026 for service starting in 2027, election as a NAIFA Trustee will be limited to two consecutive two-year terms, with a two-year cooling-off period (Article VI, Section 6). Similarly, commencing with Officers elected in 2026 for service starting in 2027, election as NAIFA President-Elect or Secretary will be limited to one one-year term (Article VI, Section 5).

Commencing with Committee members appointed in 2026, for service starting in 2027, appointment to the Governance Committee will be limited to one three-year period, with no cooling-off period, except for appointments made to fill a vacancy on the Committee (Article XIV, Section 2).

To avoid an abrupt reduction in the size of the NAIFA Board, the appointments to the Board of three representatives of FSP and one representative of Life Happens were extended through 2027 (Article VI, Section 1; Article VII, Section 1).

The NAIFA Bylaws, as amended, are available on NAIFA's bylaws page in the chapter playbook.
