CHAPTER PLAYBOOK

Member Onboarding Cycle

The first, and perhaps the most important, step of the membership cycle is the member onboarding cycle. When a new member joins NAIFA, both NAIFA's Member Experience Team and Chapter takes the following steps to welcome new members.

  1. Email to All: Auto-email confirmation of joining. (Day 1)
    • Confirmation
    • Directions on how to get a receipt.
  2. Email to All: Membership Monday – Welcome to NAIFA Nation (By Day 7)
  3. Phone Call to All: Welcome to NAIFA from NAIFA's Member Experience Team. (By Day 7)
    • Thank You for Joining
    • Request Referrals
    • Steer to New Member Orientation
    • Upcoming Events
    • Answer Questions
  4. Email to Chapter Executives, Presidents and Membership Chairs: You have new members. (By Day 7)
  5. Mail to All: National new member packet. (First of month following join.)
  6. Webinar for All: Member Orientation (By Day 30)
  7. Chapter Welcome Outreach: Direct outreach via call or email to new members from the Membership Chairs and their teams for each Chapter. You can also use direct mail and include a letter from the Chapter President (or Chapter Executive Director), a list of Chapter board members, upcoming events, etc. (By Day 30)
  8. Phone Call to All: New member check-in to NAIFA from NAIFA's Member Experience Team. (Day 90)

Other Onboarding Ideas

Member Profiles & Videos – Ask members to conduct a short interview to profile them on social media. You can also ask them to produce quick videos on why they joined to use in marketing.

New Member "Pinning" Ceremony – Chapters should invite new members to meetings or programs for the purpose of recognizing their commitment to their profession with an official “Pinning” Ceremony. While members now receive their pins directly via mail, it does not negate the value of formally recognizing them with a ceremony where they can be officially pinned and publicized, solidifying their retention from the start of their journey. A new member pinning ceremony script can be located here.

New Member Press Release – Chapters can increase awareness of NAIFA by submitting a press release to local news outlets when a new member joins.

New Member Welcome Letter – Welcome new members with a personal letter from your Chapter Executive Director by using the new member letter template.

Social Media – Welcome new members on your Chapter's social media platforms, using NAIFA's new member graphics.
