NAIFA runs on volunteer power. Each state chapter has its own board headed up by a volunteer chapter president. Members that become state chapter presidents have typically given years of service to NAIFA and served at the local chapter level prior to the state level. There are many honors state presidents receive--one favorite is being the flag bearer for the state flag during our annual meeting.
Alabama State Chapter President

My beautiful bride is a nurse at Brookwood Hospital and my daughter attends Vestavia Hills Elementary School. I am a fortunate political refugee and survivor of the Vietnam War era. I was 7 years old when my family boarded a fishing boat to find freedom. I was separated from my family early on in the trip, and drifted around the South China Sea for 7 weeks. Amidst stories and dreadful acts of pirating, diseases, and death at sea, I survived the waters, found safety at a refugee camp in Japan, and celebrated my 8th birthday there with my fellow Vietnamese "boat people."
After 7 months, I was found and reunited with my maternal grandmother, aunts & uncles with whom I lived until I was finally reunited with my parents and sister 7 years later. I now live the American Dream in the Pacific NW as a naturalized US citizen with my husband and daughter.
I attribute my survival to the power of positive thoughts that attracted so many angels to my rescue, men and women who did the right things, even when no one was looking. Without purposeful and random acts of kindness given to me by so many people, I would never have had the opportunity for higher education, traveling abroad and teaching English in Russia, or finding a professional home at Lincoln.
