Membership Definitions


Active: A member who is an insurance and financial advisor licensed to sell life, health, or property-casualty insurance, or securities, or professionals who provide advisory services with respect to insurance or other financial products or services, subject to state or federal oversight. Active members may include agents, brokers, supervisors, general agents, managers, and others engaged in local management and distribution, registered representatives of broker-dealers, investment adviser representatives, attorneys, accountants, bank and trust officers, philanthropic advisors, and such other individuals who the NAIFA Board of Trustees may determine meet the criteria for active membership. Active members can pay membership fees monthly or annually based on the number of years licensed. 

Associate Membership Categories

Associate members receive many of the same benefits of membership, but are limited in the ability to hold certain leadership roles.

Administrative Professional: A member who is working in an agency or firm to support producing members. Administrative Professionals can hold limited volunteer roles, but receive all the benefits of membership. Administrative Professionals can pay membership fees on a monthly or annual basis. 

Industry Professional: A member who is supporting financial service professionals such as financial coaches, home office employees, speakers, writers and professors. Industry Professionals pay membership fees on an annual basis. 

Student: A member who is enrolled in a high school, university, college, or graduate program seeking a diploma or degree and do not hold a license/are not actively producing in financial services. Students pay membership fees on an annual basis.
