CHAPTER PLAYBOOK

Grassroots Chair


Time Commitment: Monthly committee meetings (one hour or less). Plus 1-2 hours per month planning and executing advocacy programs/campaigns, etc.   

Term Length: Two Years – Aligned with a Congressional term of one election cycle.

Form a Committee: Use these volunteers as potential members of the Grassroots Committee – Local Chapter Grassroots Chairs, Grassroots Affiliate Coordinators and geographically diverse member volunteers with established relationships with lawmakers on both state and federal levels. 

Position Responsibilities

NAIFA’s grassroots mission is to promote the involvement of insurance and financial professionals in the election of candidates for local, state and national office who have legislative interests consistent with NAIFA standards. There is no better spokesperson for the insurance and financial services industry than a NAIFA member, who can share their story with their elected officials. In doing so, they foster meaningful and lasting relationships with elected officials across every congressional district.

Local Grassroots Chair and  Affiliate Grassroots Coordinator

The Local Grassroots Chair and Affiliate Grassroots Coordinator are responsible for getting members involved in the political process and ensuring that relationships are built between members and all area elected officials (state and federal). Duties include:

  • Serving on the State Chapter Grassroots Committee.
  • Communicating Grassroots information and news to Local and Affiliate members.
  • Involving your Local and Affiliate members in federal legislative issues at the direction of NAIFA’s Government Relations Committee, including encouraging timely responses to NAIFA GovAlerts.
  • Cultivating individual relationships with legislators (state and federal).
  • Inviting members of Congress, state legislators and other elected officials to address the membership at area meetings.
  • Providing opportunities for state and federal candidates to address the membership.
  • Encouraging Local and Affiliate members to participate in the State Chapter's Legislative Day and NAIFA's Congressional Conference.
  • Planning additional opportunities for members to meet with legislators or candidates.
  • Attend monthly meetings and report ongoing grassroots events within your state.

Lead by Example

  • Contribute at least $2,500 to IFAPAC annually (or $1,000 annually for Local Grassroots Chair and Affiliate Grassroots Coordinator).
  • Complete the Financial Security Advocate Academy (FSAA).
  • Report any relationships and interactions with state and federal lawmakers in the Advocacy Action Center (AAC).
  • Participate in all NAIFA Action Alerts.
  • Promote all IFAPAC, GOTV and grassroots campaigns.
