CHAPTER PLAYBOOK

Chapter Cohorts


The Chapter Services Team, along with the Field Leader Experience (FLEX) Team host a monthly meeting with Chapter Presidents, Chapter President-Elects, Chapter Membership Chairs, and Chapter Executive Directors to foster idea-sharing, problem-solving and group goals. In addition, Cohorts were created to:

  • Create a source of ideas, solutions and support...your peers!
  • Further simplify and enhance the Chapter Services Team support structure.
  • Group Chapters of similar sizes, jurisdictions and resources for enhanced peer-to-peer collaboration.

Each Cohort is named after a NAIFA great. The below Chapter Cohort Roster includes their name, population, FLEX Team contact, monthly call schedule and a description of the NAIFA great they represent.

The Peter Browne Cohort

Population: 10 Million +

Monthly Call: Second Tuesday @ 2 p.m. Eastern
Chapter Roster: California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Texas
Description: The Peter Browne Cohort is named in honor of Peter C. Browne, LUTCF, of New York, who was the 2015 recipient of the John Newton Russell Memorial Award, and served as NAIFA Treasurer for many years, and in several other industry leadership roles.

The George Carpenter Cohort

Population: 6.9-10.4 Million

Chapter Roster: Arizona, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and Washington
Description: The George Carpenter Cohort is named in memory of George N. Carpenter, of Massachusetts, who as a founder of NAIFA, was the association’s first President in 1890-1891.

The Juli McNeely Cohort

Population: 5-6.8 Million

Chapter Roster: Alabama, Colorado, Indiana, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, South Carolina and Wisconsin
Description: The Juli McNeely Cohort is named in honor of Juli Y. McNeely, CFP, CLU, LUTCF, of Wisconsin, who served as NAIFA’s first woman President in 2014-2015.

The Tom Wolff Cohort

Population: 2.9-4.9 Million

Chapter Roster: Arkansas, Connecticut, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nebraska, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, Puerto Rico, and Utah
Description: The Tom Wolff Cohort is named in memory of legendary insurance producer, speaker, and industry advocate, Thomas J. Wolff, CLU, ChFC, of Connecticut, who served as NAIFA President in 1979-1980.

The Bob Nelson Cohort

Population: 1-2.2 Million

Chapter Roster: Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Rhode Island and West Virginia
Description: The Bob Nelson Cohort is named in honor of Robert M. Nelson, CLU, LUTCF, of Nebraska, who served as NAIFA President in 2001-2002, providing strong leadership for the association in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks.

The Jeff Taggart Cohort

Population: Less than 1 Million

Chapter Roster: Alaska, Delaware, District of Columbia, Guam, Maine, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Puerto Rico, South Dakota, Vermont and Wyoming
Description: The Jeff Taggart Cohort is named in memory of Jeffrey J. Taggart, CLU, ChFC, LUTCF, of Wyoming, who served as NAIFA President in 2007-2008, following in the footsteps of his grandfather, Grant Taggart, the “Will Rogers of the insurance industry,” who was NAIFA President in 1942-1943.

The John Newton Russell Cohort

Population: 4.5-13 Million in Metro

Chapter Roster: Chicagoland, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, Los Angeles, Northern Virginia, Philadelphia and San Francisco
Description: The John Newton Russell Cohort is named in memory of John Newton Russell of Los Angeles, California, who served as NAIFA President in 1916-1917, and for whom the industry’s highest honorary award is named.

The Tom Currey Cohort

Description: The Tom Currey Cohort is named in honor of Thomas D. Currey, CLU, ChFC, LUTCF, of the Fort Worth, Texas area, who served as NAIFA President in 2009-2010 and as Chair of Life Happens.

The Lester Rosen Cohort

Population: 275k-1.5 Million in Metro

Chapter Roster: Central Iowa, Eastern Iowa, Greater Foothills, Heartland, Louisville, Memphis, Pineywoods of East Texas, Richmond, Upstate South Carolina and Wichita
Description: The Lester Rosen Cohort is named in memory of Lester A. Rosen, CLU, of Memphis, Tennessee, who served as NAIFA President in 1973-1974, and began the dynasty of NAIFA Presidents from Memphis, including Kirke Lewis, CLU, ChFC, LUTCF (1980-1981), Mickey Moran, CLU, ChFC (1995-1996), and Bob Brown, CLU, LUTCF (2004-2005).
