State Grassroots Chair: Federal

The state grassroots chair for federal-level advocacy is a critical role in NAIFA’s state advocacy efforts. Each state has its own method for selecting the right member, once the chairperson is tapped, he/she is expected to serve a 2-year minimum term. It is also requested that each State Grassroots Chair appoint a co-chair to assist him/her with duties.

Responsibilities

  • Encourage NAIFA members to build relationships with members of Congress and to report any contacts to NAIFA
  • Identify one Federal Coordinator for each senator and representative in your state
    • Ensure that Federal Coordinators coordinate legislative events 3-4 times a year, in-person or virtually, with legislators and/or appropriate staffers
  • Encourage the involvement of NAIFA members in political activities including federal election campaigns and attendance at town hall meetings
  • Communicate effectively and frequently with your National Grassroots Committee regional vice chair
  • Encourage participation in grassroots action alerts (GovAlerts) when important legislative action occurs
  • Work closely with other association leaders, particularly the grassroots chair for state-level advocacy, IFAPAC chair, government relations chair, and national committeeperson to ensure a well-coordinated legislative program in your state
