The state grassroots chair for federal-level advocacy is a critical role in NAIFA’s state advocacy efforts. Each state has its own method for selecting the right member, once the chairperson is tapped, he/she is expected to serve a 2-year minimum term. It is also requested that each State Grassroots Chair appoint a co-chair to assist him/her with duties.
Responsibilities
- Encourage NAIFA members to build relationships with members of Congress and to report any contacts to NAIFA
- Identify one Federal Coordinator for each senator and representative in your state
- Ensure that Federal Coordinators coordinate legislative events 3-4 times a year, in-person or virtually, with legislators and/or appropriate staffers
- Encourage the involvement of NAIFA members in political activities including federal election campaigns and attendance at town hall meetings
- Communicate effectively and frequently with your National Grassroots Committee regional vice chair
- Encourage participation in grassroots action alerts (GovAlerts) when important legislative action occurs
- Work closely with other association leaders, particularly the grassroots chair for state-level advocacy, IFAPAC chair, government relations chair, and national committeeperson to ensure a well-coordinated legislative program in your state
- In coordination with the IFAPAC and government relations chairs, encourage personal dollar fundraising activities on behalf of congressional candidates supportive of agents and advisors
- Contribute at least $500 a year to IFAPAC
Serving as a NAIFA State Grassroots Chair is a wonderful opportunity for any NAIFA member who is familiar with government relations and has a passion for advocacy.
